assignment Overview: It is important as educators to teach your students about A

assignment Overview:
It is important as educators to teach your students about America’s democratic heritage. In this assignment, you will create lessons that demonstrate your ability to incorporate democratic ideals and civic awareness into your teaching. As you are creating your lessons, do not take a historical approach. Rather create lessons that incorporate contemporary application of the Arizona Constitution. In other words, what is the impact in our lives today?
Using the COE Lesson Plan Template provided, create a lesson plan for your content area: a lesson plan that incorporates at least one aspect of the AZ Constitution. The lessons should be appropriate for the subject area and grade level that you teach.
Please be certain to site the Constitution in your lesson plan objectives. For example, “The student will explain the process for the election of the governor of the state.” The more precise you are with the knowledge you want your learners to have regarding the Constitution, the easier it will be to design good instruction and meaningful assessments for this assignment. So for example, rather than creating a lesson plan on the Arizona Bill of Rights (too broad), create a lesson plan on one power or right granted in the Arizona Bill of Rights.
Some ideas for how to do this in different subject areas are noted below.
Power to Create Legislation
– Have students research what an initiative is and how an initiative is created under the Arizona Constitution (Ref. Article IV, §1 of the Arizona Constitution).
Voting
– Have students examine Suffrage and Elections under Article VII of the Arizona Constitution and determine what qualifications are required in order to vote in the State of Arizona, and whether such qualifications make sense with regard to the right to vote.
Labor
– Have students examine whether the Arizona Constitution under XVIII seems to be 1) Providing enough protections for laborers in the State of Arizona, and whether it appears that employers/employees are complying with the provisions of the Arizona Constitution.
Please check with your instructor ahead of time if you are having challenges on working in a Constitutional component into your lesson plan.
Assignment Instructions:
Your lesson plans should include the following components:
State or national standards that are addressed in your lesson. Make sure to include
Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Since there are not common core standards
for social studies or civics, you will need to use Arizona’s Social Studies
Standards.
At least four instructional strategies designed to incorporate democratic ideals
and civic understanding into your subject area
A list of all relevant materials and resources needed
Differentiation of instruction to address the diverse needs of students. Account for
special needs students that may be included in your classroom.
Informal or formal assessments that align with objectives and take prior knowledge
into account
Specific citations denoting which part of the AZ Constitutions is being incorporated into the objectives for the lessons
A 100-150-word rationale statement for your lesson plan.
APA style is not required but solid academic writing is expected.
