Are we in danger of becoming so in touch with one another that we are in danger of losing touch because of social media?
Fact: 25% of divorces are caused because of social media.
Fact: According to laborstatistics.gov, 46% of adults between 18-40 spend 5-6 hours a day on social media. This does not include work-related technology such as emails and texting.
Fact: Suicide rates and drug overdoses are the highest levels ever recorded in history (pre-pandemic). The Covid Pandemic has made these statistics even worse.
Fact: Single parenthood rates in white communities are at 40%, Latino communities 55%, and black communities 70%.
Sociologists blame social media as one of the main reasons for these statistics.
Fact: Colleges, universities and employers check a person’s social media account before calling a person in for a job interview.
Question: Why do you think social media is playing a role in these facts and statistics? What can we do to change these behaviors?
