an exam room you have to make using Task:
You will be creating an escape room based on the 4 units of study that we have covered so far.
The escape room should have a theme carried throughout. I have provided you with 4 possible themes
but feel free to make up your own school appropriate theme. Each room should have at least 4
questions and 1 puzzle (lock, map, etc.). The 4 questions can not be of the same type ex. have 4 lens
questions, 4 balancing equations questions etc. For the climate change unit, you will make up one
question from each of the 4 lessons.
When creating the questions, you should try to make sure you have medium to hard difficulty
levels for your questions. For example (too easy) – you can find the key to the door in the organ after
the esophagus, (medium) – you can find the key in the organ that helps digest food, adds hydrochloric
acid and churns food for nutrients, (hard) – have clues separately in the room with the words/phrases,
breaks down food, adds HCl, churns food etc. When creating the theme for your escape room and
puzzles, don’t dwell too much on the themes. It is the question and answers that I will be focusing on.
When submitting your rooms, they should be organized in the following order:
1. Questions – Include pictures of your puzzle/tasks (locks, rooms etc.) and the actual questions
that go with it. (Check out some of the other files to see examples of locks and rooms).
a) Puzzle/Task 1 (all questions from the same unit ex. Chemistry)
b) Puzzle/Task 2 (all questions from a different unit ex. Biology)
c) Puzzle/Task 3 (all questions from a different unit ex. Optics)
d) Puzzle/Task 4 (all questions from a different unit ex. Climate Change)
2. Answers + Explanation – You will answer your puzzle and submit a paragraph on a separate page
explaining how you solved the puzzle using what you learned in grade 10 science.
a) Puzzle/Task 1
b) Puzzle/Task 2
c) Puzzle/Task 3
d) Puzzle/Task 4
Here is an example of a task in the chemistry unit.
Puzze – To open the special lock to the door, you must determine the formula for
Copper(II) Chloride.
Answer + Explanation – Copper (II) means that the copper has a +2 charge. Chloride
has a -1 charge. When I criss-cross the charges, my formula is CuCl2. This will open
the combination and get you to the next room. Pirate Theme
A) You have been captured by pirates and chained up in a pirate ship and locked in the bottom galley.
The pirates have left for food and drinks at the local pub. Your first set of clues need to get you
unchained. You can use any unit to give clues on how to get the lock unlocked.
Once unchained you will need to find keys to get you out of the galley. Use the same unit for clues.
There should be a total of 4 clues for part A (all from the same unit).
B) Once you are out the galley, you now have time to search the ship for the pirate treasure map. Use
clues (4 total) from a different unit that will help you find the treasure map.
C) Now you need to locate a boat to get off the pirate ship and sneak off to find the treasure. Use 4 clues
that help you find that boat
D) Now that you have found the treasure map, use 4 more clues from another unit (can not repeat the
other two units) to help you find the location of the treasure using the map. You better hurry as you can
hear the pirates on their way back “Yo ho ho and a bottle or rum”.
