1. Reflect on how, as a safety professional, you would respond to the overlap in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards and state or local building, electrical, and life safety regulations. In your opinion, what might be the most significant challenges? (400 words)
2a respond-Share with the class any experiences you have had working in an environment where hearing protection was required. Did you wear the personal protective equipment (PPE) willingly? Could the type of PPE provided have been improved? If you have never worked in a noisy environment, what do you think would be some of the barriers to PPE compliance? How could the barriers be removed? How could employees be encouraged to wear the PPE?
2b. respond to classmate- I first started working in the Construction industry, drilling and blasting. Hearing protection was required to use the Air Track drills we were operating. The company did not provide hearing protection unless I asked for It. I did ask and was provided some. However, in the first week, I was working with a couple of other seasoned team members who had their own boxes of earplugs. I was able to use theirs and was very appreciative. I was young at the time, about twenty-two years old, and did not feel using them all the time was necessary. I now suffer from hearing loss. I have recently bought hearing aids so my wife and I could go out to dinner and communicate with each other without me having to ask her to speak again.
I talk to the team members I work with about their hearing as much as I can to help them understand the importance of using the proper hearing protection and show them all the different kinds we have for them to choose from.
