Students are required to submit a final paper that requires interacting (a minimum of 2 hours) with a member of a diverse population, who is racially/ethnically different from themselves.
2). Students will discuss how different components of diversity characterize and shape the human experience.
3). Students are to explain how oppression, poverty, marginalization impact the life experience of the person interviewed and how the information enhanced the student’s self-awareness about the population.
4). Students are required to incorporate at least two peer reviewed scholarly journal articles in their paper which supports or contradict their findings from the interview.
This assignment allows students to demonstrate the application of self-awareness as they interact with someone who is different and consider their personal biases that may hinder their work with diverse clients.
