ATTACHMENT CASE STUDY 1 ASSIGNMENT I DID
CASE STUDY 2 IN ATTACHMENT
Case Study Part 2 (25 pts)
This is a continuation of Case Study Part 1. You may review the background information of CHF and Project Picasso in the Case Study under the Content tab.
For “Case Study Part 2” and “Part 3”, consider ethnocentric as the chosen staffing approach for Project Picasso, regardless of what recommendation you have made in Case Study Part 1.
Scenario:
After yesterday’s leadership meeting, CHF’s HR Director Emma Hill has a lot on her mind. The meeting included all the department heads involved in Project Picasso to discuss the cost of CHF’s international business expansion. Normally, it takes about $2 million to $3 million to open a new club in the United States including equipment and lots of other costs, but it will be a much heftier investment to do it internationally.
CEO Jeremy Garcia made it very clear to everyone that CHF takes a significant financial risk in Project Picasso. Although CHF is a successful company, it does not have unlimited resources. A budget planning meeting for Project Picasso is scheduled for next Wednesday with the leadership team. Each department will present a budget proposal and cost-benefit analysis related to Project Picasso. Jeremy wanted all the expenses explained and justified to make sure every dollar is wisely spent.
To prepare for this budget planning meeting next week, Emma’s HR department needs to make a PowerPoint presentation about the compensation package that CHF will offer to the new club manager in Barcelona.
Emma is confident that she will produce an effective PPT presentation. She always remembers the three simple steps that one of her mentors taught her about making a good briefing or presentation: First, tell them what she is going to tell them (introduction); Second, tell them; Third, tell them what she has told them (conclusion/summary).
Emma also needs to follow the guideline in the newly created Competency Model and create a job posting for all CHF employees about this management position offered in Project Picasso. Instead of posting a job ad on CHF’s website, Emma suggested in yesterday’s meeting that she would send a job posting email from her office to every single employee on the company’s payroll, so all current employees can have an equal opportunity to apply for the position.
Since creating job postings is one of the essential skills of an HR specialist, Emma has created countless job postings during her career working in the HR field. She has noticed some dos and don’ts in doing job postings over the years and she wants to use this knowledge to create an effective job posting for Project Picasso.
Emma just realizes that time is running out and she needs some assistance to get everything ready for the meeting, so she picks up the phone and dials the number of that independent HRM consultant.
Instruction:
For this assignment, as an independent HRM consultant to CHF, you are required to complete the following two tasks:
Create a PowerPoint presentation (PPT) for the CHF’s leadership team.
Use the balance sheet approach to design a comprehensive compensation package that includes salary, benefits, and other incentives to attract the most qualified internal candidates for the new club manager in Barcelona.
The package should be competitive and aligned with the company’s U.S. compensation level but also take into consideration the host country’s financial situation.
The Case Study only provided the base salary but no specific benefits information. You may add benefits and incentives as you see appropriate.
You also need to research the taxes, typical housing allowance, cost of living in Barcelona, and other expenses involved.
For compensation, you might put yourself in an expatriate’s position and imagine what would be helpful and desired for you to make that move and work overseas.
From CHF’s perspective, are those costs reasonable and can be justified? What are some of the meaningful non-financial compensations that can make a difference in an expatriate’s life but not put a big burden on the company’s financial situation?
Give your best estimate to present a dollar amount for the executives’ budgeting consideration.
Explain the rationale through cost-benefit analysis and justify the reasons for the expenses listed in your package, including direct, indirect, and non-financial benefits offered to the manager who will be working in Barcelona.
For the balance sheet, you can use the format example from the first reading in Week 4 on Page 540 (or Page 38 in PDF) to develop your balance sheet, but you can also use other balance sheet formats from your research.
When creating a PPT, consider it from an audience’s point of view. As you are sitting in the presentation as one of the CHF’s executives and thinking, why we are here today? Does the information make sense? Is the presentation boring? Is the font too small for me to read? Please visit Study Room #2 for tips on creating a good PPT.
Job Posting.
You have done good research in the first assignment and created a Competency Model. Now it’s time to use that model as a compass to find that perfect candidate for Project Picasso!
Writing a job posting is one of the essential skills for an HR specialist and the international aspect must be considered in this assignment.
For the new club management position in Barcelona, you need to create a one-page (single space) internal job posting email for HR Director Emma Hill to send out from her office to all CHF’s current employees.
Using your Competency Model in Assignment Part 1 as a guideline, this job posting should include main job responsibilities, required knowledge and skills, qualifications, advantages of working in Barcelona as an expatriate in this position, and the application timeframe and process.
As in a real job posting, this email should be single-spaced.
Although no citations are required for this email, the work still must be your own, and you may run it through Turnitin to self-check your job posting’s originality (the Similarity Score should be <25%, in Green color). Key Components Checklist: 1. Introduction: Provide the purpose and an overview of your PPT; 2. Compensation Package: Explain the rationale and justify the expenses; 3. Conclusion: Reiterate the key points and summarize the main takeaways of your PPT; 4. References; 5. Job Posting: A one-page of Word document and submit it as a separate file from PPT. Format Checklist: Length: 8 to 10 slides, not counting the Title and References slides; Title Slide: Your PPT’s title, your name, course name, and the date of your submission; Section Titles: Label the key components of your PPT with section titles; APA: Use in-text citations in slides and a References list in APA format. All images used in this assignment should be cited including royalty-free, public domain, and clip art images; Design: Any background, font, and color theme can be used. Efforts in visual enhancement are encouraged and recognized; PPT Note: Not required but could be used for practice purposes; Audio: Not required; Job Posting Email: One page, single-space, Times New Roman font (12pt, black), in Microsoft Word file. Email Format: From: Emma Hill, Director of Human Resources Date: To: All CHF Employees Subject: New Club Manager Position in Barcelona Please read the tutorial for this assignment in Study Room #2 under Content.
