In Section 1.4, pay particular attention to Wright’s discussion of the concepts of decentralization and federalism and rationales for the juvenile justice system being kept separate from the criminal justice system. In Section 1.5 and Section 1.6, Wright provides insight on the size of the justice system and identifies factors that distinguish various criminal justice models. Overall, reviewing the content in Chapter 1 of the Wright text will provide you a foundation for exploring the Week 1 prompts and topics. Finally, review the website, FBI: Uniform Crime Reporting.
The criminal justice system is made up of three main branches, including law enforcement, the judiciary, and corrections. The system as a whole can be viewed and analyzed from different perspectives and considered in terms of different outcomes.
