Observing people in public spaces is one form of research that is minimally-intrusive on the people you observe. To keep track of observation researchers use field notes, including specific facts, sensory impressions, personal responses to the fact of recording fieldnotes, summaries of conversations, insider language and questions about people or behaviors at the site for future investigation.
The attached form in the activity gives an example of what this could look like and also includes a form for your own observation. After reading the form, please take 10-15 minutes in some kind of public setting where you decide to observe what is going on around you. This involves a lot of picking and choosing. You can’t observe everything. So try to also pay attention to your process. There is then a reflection page in the activity that you should spend at least 10 minutes on before uploading.
