Cross-post: Many other disciplines outside of nursing have developed theories that are helpful in resolving healthcare issues. These are called interdisciplinary theories. For example, the theory of planned behavior was developed by psychologists to predict human behavior. This might be applicable to questions about medication adherence in nursing. Another example is systems theory. Systems theory is an interdisciplinary study of the dynamics of parts within a larger organization. You see how this theory might be helpful in implementing EBP in nursing. Below are some examples of commonly used interdisciplinary theories in nursing research:
