For your final project, you will research a culture and pantheon. Choices for research and additional details will be provided on Canvas.
Details:
For this assignment you may choose to work with the following cultures/pantheons:
Aztec
Chicano (Mexican-American)
Hawaiian
Inuit
Korean
Mayan
Mesopotamian
Navajo
Hindu
Yoruba
Research your chosen culture or pantheon and synthesize a report. In your report you should address:
The general culture of the people including relevant historic and current circumstances
Obviously you can’t give an entire history but make sure you provide some context for their beliefs.
The general pantheon or beliefs of the people
Focus on the basic elements (monotheistic vs polytheistic, primary figures, worship, etc.).
The context or interpretations of stories
Essentially: connect the first point (the people) to the second point (the belief system).
Current children’s publications on the culture and beliefs
I’m not expecting you to read all the books you locate. I’m looking for you to research whether any exist. If so, who is writing or publishing these stories? How are these stories being adapted or presented for children? If there are not any current books, why might that be so?
You may extend beyond these elements depending on what you find in your research.
Your report should…
Be at least 800 words, no more than 1600
Word count does not include MLA heading or Works Cited.
Be formatted in MLA style
MLA header, MLA heading
1 inch margins
Font size: 12
Times New Roman preferred
Double spaced evenly throughout
Remove extra space between paragraphs
Works Cited
Including at least 3 reliable sources
Be written in a formal style (no use of “I,” no contractions, etc.)
