300 words/2500 characters-
I have heard from mutliple sources that I need to improve my communication- I don’t have a problem communicating in general- but it doesn’t always foster the intent I am trying to achieve. ( this doesnt need to go in there- but I have my doctorate and two masters and I am told that I need to essentially dumb it down) – I need to better write for my audience- also- I am not formal in my email exchanges at work- I just want to answer the question and move on – where most higer up leaders do formal salutations etc.. and write out entire paragraphs — I would much prefer to skip that part and forward the email that says all of that– Although I know that is not good ( again don’t need to put in there- just giving background) — I take feedback really well- I def have the mentality that if I don’t know what is broken then I can’t fix it. – I am developing self awareness and have now accepted it- I have since enlsited support from colleagues and now aask for feedback — learning to make adjustments- when I have a report to write etc. then circle back to my boss — I have also taken a communications class that addresses communicating up, down and laterally. – what I have learned is tthat I have to be aware of my audience and really consider them when I am speaking at meetings – I have always done this when presenting at workshops or training and adjusting for the audience but never thought about the need to do it within the agency or department until the last year or so –
