the following are the instructions that I was given.
Your assignment is to evaluate a Historical
landmark, a historical society’s collections, or a museum exhibit from
any period or region that is covered in this course (so you can look at a
time period already covered, or one upcoming). This paper is meant to be focused on a way to evaluate historical resources available in the community. You should: 1. Identify the background of the landmark or exhibit, the purpose (and process?) or preservation, 2. How it is being utilized in the community, and 3. the
benefit of having this landmark or exhibit available to residents and
visitors alike. Clearly the majority of your paper is the background of
the element you choose.
Be sure to write clearly. Do not copy directly from the museum or
society’s website. You might consider doing some background research
online to learn more about the items in question. If you can find items
from the time period we are discussing (hint: they are out there) then
kudos to you.
**Do not select a historical landmark on which you cannot find
much about how it is being preserved for the community or the like and
then say “this is all I could find.” If you cannot find enough
information to write the minimum length – choose a new one.
Other common pitfalls:
1. Any images included do not count toward length (and should be properly cited).
2. Be sure to answer all 3 questions.
3. Be sure the focus of your paper falls within the timeframe and
region of this course. For example, do not choose Castillo de San Marcos
in St. Augustine as this would be both outside the timeframe and
outside the region.
