Country report on political models, democracy and democratic institutions since independence (400 points = 40%). Pick an African country of your interest and get it approved by me by March 31. Write an 8- to 10-page report on that country’s political and democratic history. Explain the reasons why the country of your choice has been able to demonstrate evidence of sustained democratic governance and institutions since its independence or in the last two decades (past 20 years). What were the hinderances and challenges to achieving sustained good governance and democratic institutions in your country of choice? How did the people deal with these challenges? Your report should include in its “Introduction” the geography, population, economic base, and the ethnic, linguistic and religious diversity of the country. You should also provide suggestions to strengthen democratic principles and institutions in the country. It is important to use sub-headings and paragraphs to organize your report. Use The Chicago Manual of Style to acknowledge sources in the body of your essay in either Footnotes or Endnotes, and in the Bibliography at the end of the paper. Refer to the Grading Criteria for Written Papers above. Submission of the country report on the Blackboard and via email is on May 18.
