inclusion criteria :
– age more than 3 months
– patient admitted to the hospital through ER
– febrile at the time of ED presentation
– inflammatory markers ( CRP and/or PCT) collected
exclusion criteria :
– Cerebral Palsy patients
– known chronic illness
– critically ill or admitted to picu
– age less than 3 months
– afebrile patients
hypothesis: frequent unnecessary blood culture collection at ED
objectives :
-(primary)frequency and indication of blood culture , identification of the organism isolated from positive blood culture
-(secondary) the impact of unnecessary blood culture collection on the following :
-cost effectiveness practice
-length of stay at the hospital
-family/social burden
-abuse of antibiotics
-relation to the admission diagnosis
