To do so, choose an environmental or social problem. Discuss whether this problem is caused by (in)efficient allocation, (un)fair distribution, or (un)sustainable scale. Choose only the most important of these three causes for your particular problem, although you may acknowledge the role of the others if they are relevant. Justify and reference your analysis carefully. Briefly suggest a way that this problem could be solved. Some examples of environmental and social problems that you could analyse include (but are not limited to): climate change, biodiversity loss, oil spills, plastic in the oceans, food waste, chemical pollution, deforestation, overpopulation, urban sprawl, air pollution, traffic congestion, homelessness, unemployment, poverty, public debt, Brexit, the coronavirus crisis, etc. Write your essay in an accessible style (similar to what you would read in the Guardian or Conversation). Give it an engaging title that would make someone want to read it. Clearly explain the meaning of any economic terms or jargon so that an educated lay reader would understand what you have written.
