Although educator accountability is not a new concept, it has become more deliberate and public in recent years. How has increased educator accountability helped to improve education at the school level? How has it been detrimental to education?
Policy determines how money is spent on education. As a means of decentralizing control of schools and allowing families more options, there has been a push for charter schools, magnet schools, virtual schools, private school tax credits, vouchers, etc. Discuss why families should or should not be able to use public funds to help pay for educating their child(ren) in a nontraditional setting.
Many, if not most, schools have a local policy regarding the use of electronic items in school. Should personal electronic items (laptops, tablets, cell phones, etc.) be freely used by students and faculty, or should restrictions be placed on such devices? How can a school or school system reasonably manage potential problems while taking advantage of the technological benefits?
