Your assignment is to create a 300-500 word policy brief about your issue and advocacy position for/against/to modify the legislation you are working on. Although some of the articles discuss how to format the document, I’m less concerned about format and want you to emphasize the content — it should be clear, succinct, have sufficient information to support your argument, have appropriate citations for all facts, and no grammatical errors or typos.
The policy brief is an extension of your previous work (fact sheet, issue summary) but should be more polished and therefore clearer and more persuasive — based on your having done more research about the issue and having already explained how the legislation will address the issue you are advocating about. The brief should be of a quality that you are comfortable leaving behind with the decision-maker you will meet.
