You will see a long list of tutorials for each program below. You do NOT need to watch all of the tutorials posted. However, you will need to explore at least one software program in each category (i.e.,  Brainstorming/Graphic Organizer, Talking Word Processor, Word Prediction).

Page 1 Requirements: Graphic Organizer Activity
For this activity you are to create an “All About Me” graphic organizer using a Graphic Organizer program of your choice. Your graphic organizer should have at least 4 categories with at least three supporting details for each category. You are expected to demonstrate your ability to link cells, add symbols, modify text and color, and add notes. You will use your graphic organizer for additional writing activities for this lab. You should save your graphic organizer to submit (or you can save your screenshot of your “All About Me” screen which you’ve created and submit the graphic file).
Page 2 Requirements: Writing Activity
For this activity you are to use your graphic organizer to help you draft the first paragraph of your “All About Me” essay. To simulate the writing experience of young writers and/or writing with writing difficulties, I would like you to make several “errors” when you are writing your draft such as spelling, capitalization, homonyms. You are to write your essay in Microsoft Word with Read and Write. When writing, you should practice using the “speak as I type feature”. Once you have written your paragraph (with errors), you are going to use a screen capture tool (e.g., Screencast-O-Matic) to capture your demonstration of using the program tools to review and edit your work (such as running spell check, homonym checker, and using the text reader for proof reading). Please do not worry if you do not have any sound when recording. You will save your recording and submit the link.
Page 3 Requirements: Word Prediction Activity
For this activity you are to use your graphic organizer to help you draft the second paragraph of your “All About Me” essay. You will continue to work in Microsoft Word, but will add word prediction. While you are writing in Microsoft Word, you can choose to use either the word prediction feature of Read and Write or Word Q to compose your second paragraph. Before you begin writing you will initiate your recording, start the recording session by turning on the word prediction program, setting the vocabulary level of your software, and then compose your paragraph. As you write make sure you mention how you are activating your word prediction, either by pressing a number key on the computer or clicking on the word in the word prediction list. Remember the goal is to use as few keystrokes as possible. Please do not worry if you do not have any sound when recording. You will save your recording and submit the link.
