Write a three to four page paper describing a picture, painting, art object, or focused movie scene. Describe the visual detail of the items in the picture (using especially the visual details of size, shape, texture, color, and position) as vividly as possible for an audience that would not be able to view the picture.
In addition to your vivid description of the visual aspects, describe your reaction to the tone and/or emotional content of the piece. What does the picture mean to you? Is it symbolic of something you have experienced? Does it convey a specific emotion?
Begin brainstorming for this project by listing all the visual detail you can generate and shaping it into a logical sequence of description. Then begin to work in the detail related to tone and emotion and shape your introduction and conclusion to draw the reader into your vision of the picture, and give a sense of closure.
Your essay will be evaluated on the qualities of specific description and detailed reaction to the picture. Also, it will be evaluated on focus, organization, and a lack of sentence-level errors such as fragments, run-ons, and comma splices. It should also show evidence of careful proofreading for typographical, spelling, and punctuation errors.
