-You will examine the Netflix documentary THE SOCIAL DILEMMA and Facebook’s Published Response to the documentary (Attached below). For this essay you will need to make a claim as to whether Facebook’s response is valid or not valid and why. You will achieve this by using the knowledge you have gained throughout the semester, as well as the sources on the Essay Resources lists to support your claim. Be sure your thesis makes a claim, AND draws a conclusion. I urge you to focus on specific elements of Facebook’s response as opposed to broadly addressing the entire company response. This will make the task easier and less daunting. Facebook’s response addresses seven topics: addiction, shared data, algorithms, privacy, polarization, elections, and misinformation. In other words, Facebook specifically responds to whether or not the platform is addictive; who has access to data, how its algorithms work, what it does with sensitive personal data, its divisive nature, its role in elections and how it handles fake news. In addition, if you know of an area the movie addressed, but the company DID NOT respond to in its response, this could be an effective to pursue.<

2. Thesis statement. Do you have an original clearly articulated opinion or debatable claim with an original conclusion?<
3. Resources. Are the resources described? Have you explained how the additional sources support the thesis statement? 4. Paragraph organization. Is the essay logically structured with each paragraph having a single main idea or focal point. Is the focal point of each body paragraph clear in the topic sentence? Are the paragraphs ordered so that the essay builds towards a complete analysis? <
5. Conclusion. Does the essay come full circle, pursue implications and draw a conclusion? Does it avoid a word-for-word restatement of what came earlier in the essay? <
6. Title. Does the essay have a title that catches the reader’s attention? Do not title your essay, “Essay #3” or “A Critical Synthesis.” Be creative!<
7. POV Is the essay in third person? An anecdote in the intro paragraph can be in first person, but only if the essay has 2 intro paragraphs.<
8. Quotations and paraphrases. Are they integrated smoothly and logically? Are they all cited correctly?<
