Write a research paper of about 3,000 words, describing the procedure from accusation, investigation, and arrest to completion of the sentence or acquittal for a specific crime in a model nation of your choice. The paper should detail all processes including the accusation, police, courts, actors, corrections, appeals, etc..
The paper should be written as seen through the eyes of the accused. Write as though you are there and living the experience. Detail each step in the legal processes but also show your emotions. Include your fears, frustration, and other feelings. Write to make the experience come alive. You were arrested and lived the experience. Write about the conversations that you had with other prisoners, with the police and corrections officers, and others that you may have contacted.
Now the ordeal is over and you’re home telling the story to the class or your friends and co-workers. Do not write this assignment in the language of a traditional research paper. You lived the experience. Write from that view. Write it as though you are a story teller rather than a student. Part of the grade is how well you make the story become real.
A minimum of five sources should be used. List all sources. A personal interview may be used as a reference. Due to the nature of the assignment, it may be difficult to list references in a traditional academic format. List them the best way that you can reasonably credit the information to a source. Be sure to have a complete bibliography.
Use your imagination. Obviously, you are making up most of the story but the factual part must be correct and based on references.
Refer only to the model nation in question. Avoid making references or comparisons to other nations or other criminal justice systems.
