Type out a Pro / Con List for your individual research paper. Your Topic and Thesis must appear above the Pro/Con list.
There are two presentations: 1) Position and 2) Problem/Solution.
Look at the examples in the Modules under Death Penalty (Position) and Homelessness in Los Angeles (Problem/Solution) for proper formatting.
POSITION
Important: The pros are a list of topic points that support your thesis and the cons are a list of topic points from your opposition that directly responds to your pro points. Each should be numbered and horizontally matching.
Note: In this particular example, even though the thesis is arguing to ban the death penalty, the pros are actually reasons that support abolishing capital punishment. Just think that this writer would be a Pro-Abolitionist of Capital Punishment.
PROBLEM / SOLUTION
The Problem: You have no pros or cons for this section. It is simply an informative presentation with individual topic points that help to educate the audience about the problem, which is generally accepted by your universal audience.
The Solution: In this section you will have pros and cons because the solution itself will be controversial. The pros are a list of topic points that support your proposed solution and the cons are a list of topic points from your opposition that directly responds to your pro points. Each should be numbered and horizontally matching.
