1st Slide:
An example : Creat a case study about a minority patient who through trust ( using Madeline Leninger’s transcultural theory) opens up to his nurse as a result of her show of love and respected to the patient and her culture. She complains of chest tightness and difficulty sleeping. She has a medical diagnosis of Anxiety.
– The case being of a 25 year old Hispanic mother of two who recently moved to a shelter. The patient when received by the nurse was noted very very closed off and very reserved, hardly making any eye contact but soon opens up to “ me” her nurse and confides in the nurse after feeling the nurse is trust worthy.
She tells the nurse “me” that she has been running away from her abusive boyfriend “my life has not been easy”. She latter tells the nurse that she had thought of abandoning her children at the Catholic Church but after talking to me her nurse felt very empowered to make something of her self and bring up her children.
She stated to the nurse “I have been feeling very stressed and lonely. I just needed someone to talk to. Some one who would not look at me as though I am crazy” or judge me for making poor choices, “I trust you” the patient stated.
The social worker was informed about her situation and a better women’s shelter for abusive women was found for her. Latter in that year, she called the unit to thank the nurse “ me” for helping her and informed the nurse that with her encouragement she had moved back in with her Aunty in Philadelphia and was almost finished taking classes to become a nurses assistant.
She wanted me to know I was to her, her “Hero”.
