This week we are focusing on writing the thesis statement for your research essay, and then editing it to make sure that it says all it needs to say–without saying too much. Sound complex? It isn’t–don’t be worried. When we write a thesis we are thinking about what we want to get across to the reader, and how we want them to see it through our eyes. One of the best ways I have ever heard a thesis statement described is “The problem PLUS your attitude”
Just remember the thesis statement will frame the whole paper, and it should answer the following:
1. What is the specific issue you are presenting?
2. How do you feel about the issue (considering also how researchers/sources present it to support your argument) ?
HINT: If you feel like you might be overthinking it–chances are you need to narrow your thesis down.
NOTE: Your thesis should be well formed and you should be ready to defend it, but it is OK to have a simple and straightforward statement.
After absorbing all of this, please POST YOUR THESIS STATEMENT  FOR YOUR RESEARCH ESSAY HERE and remember to provide feedback to at least two classmates on their thesis statements.
