Goal: Show HOW an author writes, HOW the author succeeds or fails in meeting his/her/their goals. This is not an interpretation or review, but an analysis.
• Rhetorical analysis is useful in “the real world” in a number of ways. When we can understand how people are communicating, we’re better prepared to interpret and understand the world around us: politics, marketing, hierarchies of power, and even day-to-day relationships.
▪ For this paper, your essay should analyze, in detail, the author’s rhetorical situation. Complete the accompanying worksheet to guide your analysis.
▪ You should use a reasoned thesis statement to control, organize, and focus your paper.
▪ Your audience is the HEN112 discourse community.
▪ You should anticipate performing some research for this paper so you can place it within its socio-historical context. Use only academic/scholarly works.
