This is your final project for the term. You’ll be submitting it here as an attachment.
Assume that you are in charge of selecting books for a new library. Select one of these libraries:
an after school program that serves children between the ages of 5 and 12 in Giles County, Virginia;
a daycare that serves children from birth until Kindergarten (usually 5 years old) in downtown Richmond;
a new high school in Fauquier County, Virginia
a middle school in Norfolk, Virginia
Do Some Research
Once you have selected the library, do research to learn more information about the demographics of your library’s community. Here’s a good place to start: Virginia Demographic Information
Use your textbook to determine information about the appropriate books for the children in your school. Take the children’s reading level and the community demographics into account.
Select Your Books
Use your research to select 20 books you feel your library MUST have. Three of your books should be problematic for somebody (a teacher, a parent, a pastor, etc.) Give all the books’ authors, titles, publishers and dates of publication.
The Writing
List the books you have selected. This may be a bulleted list. Every entry should have the name of the book, the author, the publisher and the year of publication.
Now justify your decisions in an essay. You don’t have to justify every book, but explain the general concepts that are driving your decisions. Those justifications ought to be based on information you learned during this term, and on the age and demographics of your library’s constituents. You MUST have at least three entries on a Works Cited page and corresponding in-text citations.
Identify the three books that might be challenging. What is problematic about each book? Justify why each book is important to your collection.
Format: You may simply create a bulleted list of the total book collection. Your explanation of the collection and justification for the problematic books should be in paragraph format.
