This is my final assignment for grade 10 science and I need it to be good. This isn’t just a lab report tho, it’s an assignment where you watch a video and fill out information in a chart, then you answer some questions, then the final part is the lab report. I will pay you well and depending on how good it is at the end, I will tip you extra. Thank you and good luck…
MASS IN CHEMICAL REACTIONS LAB Total: /50
Hypothesis: Before watching the videos, predict what you expect to happen to the mass of the substances before and after the reaction. Give a reason for your prediction. (2 marks)
__________________________________________________________________________________________
Procedure – Part A: Sodium sulphate (Na2SO4) and Calcium chloride (CaCl2)
1. Watch the following video of the reaction and record your observations of the reactants and the products. Be sure to pause the video to record 2 observations for each reactant before the reaction. Record these in the observations chart. Repeat with the products.
2. Also record the mass before and after the reaction, as well as at least one evidence of a chemical change. Include them in the appropriate space in your observations chart.
Procedure – Part B: Vinegar (C2H3O2) and sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3)
1. Watch the following video of the reaction and record your observations of the reactants and the products. Be sure to pause the video to record observations for each reactant before the reaction. Record these in the observations chart. Repeat with the products.
2. Also record the mass before and after the reaction, as well as at least one indicator of a chemical change. Include them in the appropriate space in your observations chart.

Discussion: (24 marks)
Part A: video 1
Describe the reactants and the resulting products. How do you know a chemical reaction has happened? What is the type of reaction? (2 marks)
Compare the mass of the products with the mass of the reactants. Is this what you expected to find? Explain. (2 marks)
The reactants in this reaction were sodium sulphate and calcium chloride. The products of this reaction are sodium chloride and calcium sulphate (solid). Write the word equation for this reaction. (2 marks)
Write the balanced, chemical equation for the reaction. Include states. (6 marks)
Part B: video 2
Describe the reactants and the resulting products. How do you know a chemical reaction has happened? (2 marks)
Compare the mass of the products with the mass of the reactants. Is this what you expected to find? Explain. (2 marks)
The reactants in this reaction were vinegar (C2H4O2), and sodium bicarbonate. The products of this reaction are water, carbon dioxide gas and sodium acetate (NaC2H3O2). Write the word equation for
this reaction. (2 marks)
Write the balanced, chemical equation for the reaction. Include states. (6 marks)

FORMAL LAB REPORT:
This lab will involve a formal lab write-up. Lab report writing is an essential skill in science. Below is a template to follow.
Your report should be typed in 12 point font throughout, double-spaced, and include the following subheadings and information:
TITLE PAGE (1 mark):
Ensure that the title of the lab is descriptive, and includes all of the
The information is listed in the image to the right. The title should be in the same font style and size as the rest of the report.
INTRODUCTION (4 marks):
Provides background information which makes it easier to understand the report. Explain any relevant laws and theories, important terms and definitions. Anything of relevance for understanding the lab. Do not refer to specifics of the lab, only to information related to the topic. Between half a page to a page in length. 1. List the different clues for chemical changes. 2. Explain what happens during a chemical reaction (i.e. reactants, products). 3. Give the types of chemical reactions. 4. State and explain the law of conservation of mass (i.e. mass and number of atoms). Must be in paragraph form.
PURPOSE (1 mark):
Identify the main purpose of this investigation. This statement should be no longer than a sentence.
HYPOTHESIS (2 marks ):
Predict what you expect to happen to the mass of the substances before and after the reaction. Give a reason for your prediction. Should not be longer than 1-2 sentences.
OBSERVATIONS (12 marks):
Your observations should appear in a TABLE. The table should clearly list your observations, in proper scientific terminology. Only record the results, do not interpret them. Interpretation (or analysis of the data) is to be done in the discussion and conclusion.
DISCUSSION (24 marks): Part A and Part B are to be written separately.
This section should comprise the bulk of your report. It is to be written in paragraph form, in a formal third-person tone. The purpose of the discussion is to try to provide scientific explanations for the observations. Incorporate your answers to the assigned discussion questions in this section. This section should read as a well-formulated essay, and thus, do NOT simply list your answers, but rather incorporate them in paragraph form.
paragraph form: no questions permitted and do not number the paragraphs. You are writing a scientific essay.
a formal third-person tone: Not: “I cleaned the beaker”. Rather: “The beaker was cleaned”. No one knows who cleaned the beaker. This is not important. What is important is to know that the beaker was cleaned. I.e. “Water was poured in the test tube”, “Bubbles of gas were produced”.
CONCLUSION (2 marks):
In a concise statement, summarize what was learned from this experiment (part A and part B). Relate your conclusion to the original hypothesis and the purpose.
REFERENCES:
You will likely not need many outside references beyond your notes.
FORMAT (4 marks):
You will also be evaluated according to the following criteria for the format of your report:
Writing (word processing) is pleasing to the eye and all sections are written in sentences and paragraphs; Space and text are nicely balanced
Text and visuals (graphs, tables etc.) are integrated well; Appropriate science lab write-up formatting is used. Title and subheadings.
No spelling or grammar errors
Writing should not include “I”, “we”, “our”…. Written in the passive voice (third person)
All parts of the lab are double-spaced
