The purpose of this speech is to persuade, convince, or motivate the audience, either by changing an audience’s beliefs, attitudes, values, and/or behavior.
Topic Selection: For your topic, I would like you to focus a change you would like to see in the world. It can be a global change, a national one, or a local one. It can be incredibly serious or something more lighthearted (would you like to persuade the audience that the change you’d like to see is more focus and resources on combatting global warming or the change you would like to see is that the city you live in should synchronize all of its traffic lights so we don’t have to stop every 100 ft for a red light).
You can talk about anything: politics, the economy, health (there’s something to focus on right now!), culture, the arts, interpersonal relationships, sports…anything. As long as it is a change you would like to see happen in the world I’m fine with it.
Supporting Materials: Use your own knowledge of the topic and your experience to enhance your credibility as a speaker. You must also use AT LEAST TWO sources of information to enhance your speech.
Audience Analysis: The success of a persuasive speech depends on a speaker thinking about the audience’s reaction and interest to a topic. Pick a topic that is interesting, different and that will have an impact on the audience.
Organization and Written Work: You MUST use an outline for this assignment. The outline needs to have an introduction, body (2-3 main points) and a conclusion. The outline must conform to the format discussed in class. A works cited section is also required.
