cannot always be determined. Blog posts and Wikipedia are NOT valid
sources. Only scientific peer-reviewed journal articles, books, and

permitted. Reports from entities, such as the United Nations, Eurostat, the
European Union, Statistics Canada, US Bureau of the Census, CDC,
WHO, NCHS, Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Population Reference
Bureau, Department of Homeland Security (and its components, such as
ICE, USCIS, CBP) may be used. Reports by ‘think tanks’ and policyoriented institutions and centres, such as the Brookings Institution, the
Urban League, ACLU, National Organization for Women, RAND, PEW
Hispanic Center, National Council of La Raza, Southern Poverty Law
Center, and so on may also be used.
When searching for articles or documents, instead of Google, use Google
Scholar (scholar.google.com). The paper should be an in-depth
examination of some major issue about gender. It should demonstrate that
you are familiar with the relevant research and that you understand the
issues and controversies involved. Your own original thinking, or your
ability to offer some sort of critique, maybe most helpful but your own
thoughts should not be used as a substitute for adequate research. A
minimum of a half-dozen scholarly sources should be cited (e.g. books,
journal articles). You can also cite newspapers – Time, Newsweek, Atlantic
Monthly, the New York Times and Wall Street Journal often have excellent
articles – so long as you have the minimum number of scholarly references
(12).
Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok, and similar social media sites may
not be used as sources. If you borrow ideas from a website, please provide
in the text the organization’s name and year, and in the References, the
organization’s name, year of document, name or description of the
document, and the full URL, as well as the date and time of your visit.
