The Essential Elements of Instruction (the Hunter Model) is an instructional planning method mentioned in the course descriiption and this model is still used in many school districts. More recent models, including the GANAG Model, 5E Model, UbD Model and Cooperative Learning Models share some components with the Hunter Model, but also have their own unique features.
A couple of short resources for each instructional model listed below are provided in this module — but they probably won’t provide enough information to generate a comprehensive answer to your activity guide questions. Do a little Internet research on your own to learn more about each of the models below, then download Activity Guide #2 to use as a template to compare and contrast the models.
(1) Essential Elements of Instruction
(2) GANAG Model
(3) 5E Model
(4) UbD Model
(5) Cooperative Learning Model
Briefly discuss the following regarding each model:
o Primary authors/researchers of the model
o Basic components of the model
o Suggested uses (i.e., better for planning elementary or secondary instruction? Better for planning in a specific subject/content area, etc.)
o Commonalities and Differences with the other models
o Pros and Cons of the Model
