The article must be one in which the author(s) identify a particular position on an issue, one which you can evaluate in your response; as such, it would not be appropriate to select an article that is merely factual or explanatory in nature. The article must be substantive enough to warrant a 4-5 page response, so keep article length in mind as you select one to critique.

Critique Format:

Overview – In one-to-two double-spaced pages, provide an overview of the article to include the statement of the problem or issue discussed, the research approach or method, author’s hypothesis, and conclusions. While this section can include paraphrasing and direct quotations, work to describe the components of the article in your own words without over-relying on the author’s work.
Critique – In three-to-five double-spaced pages, outline your critique. A critique essay, by nature, requires that you evaluate the author’s position and provide your well-reasoned opinion. Ultimately, your response to the author’s ideas should be informed by the broader context of the marketing discipline, so work to incorporate ideas, concepts, and/or strategies you have learned in previous courses to support your critique. Refer to the key points outlined in the overview (above) as the attributes to analyze based on your understanding of the broader marketing discipline.
