1. Describe the root causes of the Great Depression during the 1930’s. Why was the effort by President Herbert Hoover deemed to be inadequate by the American people. Describe the the New Deal under President Franklin Roosevelt, look at its strengths and weaknesses and why did voters react differently to his plans than they did with Hoovers. Did the Great Depression effect the Republican party’s elections future prospects for the White House and congress and if so why?
2. Describe Reconstruction and its role in trying to open up freedom and opportunity for African Americans. Describe the successes and failure of the plan and why did it eventually fail to achieve racial equality in the United States at the time. Examine the white backlash especially in the south and the actions Whites took to limit social and economic prospects for African Americans and why was it allowed to succeed.
