Instructions:Reference your selected publicly traded company’s financial reports and locate the three major financial statements.
Review the major category line items more closely (i.e. current assets, sales, net income, cash flow from operations, etc.) in the balance sheet, income statement, and statement of cash flow.
In addition, be sure to review the “Notes to Consolidated Financial Statements” and the first footnote, the “Summary of Accounting Policies”.
Develop a synopsis that includes:
A summary of your findings of the major financial statements. In your summary, include the following:
Dates covered for each statement, i.e. what fiscal years are covered?
What financial statements and numbers first captured your attention? Why?
Are there increases or decreases from the prior year? Be sure to identify significant or notable changes associated with specific line items. If major changes are not “noticeably” significant, discuss any small changes that may be observed from the perspective of the importance of monitoring the line item (e.g. why is it important for a firm to monitor net income, current assets, total liabilities, etc.)
Do you think the increases or decreases observed have a positive or Requirements negative effect on the company’s financial condition?
Identify the MD&A and discuss any important notations or components. o Identify 3-5 major findings that you considered interesting within the first footnote, “Summary of Significant Accounting Policies” and discuss why.
Discuss if the accounting policies are in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
