Employee engagement surveys help employers identify the varied levels of employee commitment towards the organization to differentiate between engaged and disengaged workers. This way, the organization can facilitate and establish two-way communication between the employers and employees, to better understand the latter’s thought process. A 5-point scale (strongly agree to strongly disagree) was used for employees to express themselves. While conducting engagement surveys, multiple engagement drivers are listed which have varying levels of significance that determine the top priorities or critical factors for any company. Since the engagement drivers and engagement index are correlated, we can identify the top priorities of the firm.
In the above case, one of the top priorities for the firm pertains to the area of ‘satisfaction with the recognition I receive for my work.’ Majority of the employees strongly agreed that this factor was important to them, as they were satisfied with the recognition or credit they received for their work. The impact on engagement is very high for this aspect, which shows that the company acknowledges the work put in by employees. “Employees work harder and more efficiently when they’re routinely recognized for strong work. Celebrating good work encourages employees to continually chase that praise. Recognition reaffirms that their efforts are helping the organization, which can increase engagement and possibly lead to fewer sick days and tardiness.” (Quantum Workplace, n.d). When employees are recognized at work, it helps retain top talent, encourage high performance, boost financial health and increase overall engagement. When employees strongly agree to this engagement driver, it only means that they feel a real connection with their jobs and tend to go above and beyond what’s required to perform well. It also shows that it is a priority for the company to accurately recognize its workers and give credit where its due.
