Automation has been replacing jobs ever since the advancement in technology. Technology has been a big impact on the labor market. Here are a few examples of jobs that have been replaced by technological changes: call centers, online customer service, telemarketers, factory assembly line workers, typists. Most of the jobs replaced by robotics are mundane and repetitive. Some jobs that are unlikely to be replaced by technology are recreational therapists, mental health and social workers, actors, music artists, chefs, and veterinarians. The face-to-face interaction with another person or animals cannot be perfectly replicated by artificial intelligence.
Time is a hot commodity in today’s society. Everyone wants to maximize their production output and increase profit in less time. Technological advancements allow for increase productivity and efficiency, which in turn increases revenue. Robotics and artificial intelligence can run for longer periods of time, cutting wasted hours. More work can be completed by automation with less effort.
Technology may seem like it’s destroying but jobs but it is really just transforming the nature of work. It doesn’t mean it is decreasing the available jobs in the market. Technology has also opened up opportunities in new or existing fields. Unemployment in the non-skilled will rise, but the demand for technically skilled will go up. Employers and employees would need to adapt and start training for the future, or risk being stagnant. Once the unemployed gain the necessary new technical skills, they will get employed again. These rapidly emerging technologies just mean we need to be more competitive than ever.
I believe widespread automation will have a positive effect on our society in the future. It is improving our way of life and cutting unimportant tedious tasks from our time. Our world is always on the constant path of change and progress, whether we like it or not. It is up to us as a society to adapt to these changes or end up falling behind other nations. These emerging technology will determine how successful we are able to get to. The rising population in the world means more demands for food and products. With rising prices of materials, businesses need to be able to bring costs down while producing goods at a fair price.
