We learned in school that standardized tests are critically important to our futures. Indeed, you will likely have to pass a standardized test to earn your license to teach, even after you have earned your degree. The No Child Left Behind Act strongly emphasizes the use of testing to create a system that holds schools and school districts accountable for student progress. Because much attention is given to standardized test scores, it is commonly assumed that standardized tests are the best measures we have. But what precisely do they measure?
