1. Sophia Calvo,
Sociologists view the concept of deviance as a violation of rules and norms. The term deviant is different from one group to another but within the same society. You can be considered deviant from by the way you look to your abilities or incapabilities. As a person, I like to follow the rules and laws in life because I am not one that would want to be negatively sanctioned. In life I have tried my best to do things the right way and by doing so I get positively sanctioned. I belive being sanctioned (positive sanction, in specific) can range from opening the door for someone at an establishment to saving someones life. There was a time when I had found an elderly woman collapsed in the hospital parking lot vomiting bile. She was all alone. She was trying to make it to the hospital doors but she did not make it all the way. I had found her and stayed with her, asked her some questions and had her daughter come to the hospital to be with her. As I was with this elderly lady, watching her making sure she was okay, she lookeed up at me and gave me a smile and thanked me for being there for her when her daughter could not. Just her smile made it positively sanctioned. I do believe in some part that there is a problem in the criminal justice system in the United Sates. I belive that some decisions by the judges are not fair to those being accused. I have seen wrongful judgement simply because of the person that is being on trial’s background.
2. Emily Diaz,
Deviance explores the actions or behaviors that violate social norms. Some sociologists define the term “deviance” as a collection of conditions, person or acts that society does not agree with. Sociologist, Emile Durkeim view deviance as different perspective on how society functions. Sociologists who study deviance examine how they change over time, how certain things are enforced and what happens to individuals and societies when norms are broken. In sociology, the definition of deviance is the violation of social rules and conventions. Deviance also determines the behavior of a person. It can also be seen as unpleasant by the society. There is not a specific definition to define the term deviance, they are often difficult to understand what it means. There is always a confusion when it comes to deviance, just because something may look weird does not mean it is deviant. Going over the speed limit can be considered as a deviance. It is a deviance because it is breaking the law. I was sanctioned once by speeding, I got lucky and I was able to leave with no ticket and only a warning to be careful. I’ve always been a careful driver, hence the reason why i was let go with a warning because i had no track record of any traffic tickets or any trouble. By getting a warning, I will never speed again or act in a deviant behavior ever again because it could have been a lot worse than it really was. I personally do not think there is any problem with the criminal justice system. The criminal justice system is suppose to apply equally to everyone, sometimes I do believe it could be unfair but other times I believe the criminal justice system is doing the right thing by the people and trying to protect them and keep them safe.
