Introduction
Onboarding is crucial in connecting new hires to the company beginning the first day. It is not a one day event. Good onboarding takes place over time. It is the responsibility of HR, the hiring manager, department personnel, and anyone else within the organization who comes in contact with the new employee. It is important to remember that “we only get one chance to make a good first impression.” How an employee is treated, the training they are given all factor into whether or not the employee will stay with the organization.
Activity Instructions
This week you will develop an onboarding presentation for your organization. You may not use one that already exists for your company. It should cover the employee’s first day and the next 90 days. You are not expected to detail 90 individual days, but the critical elements during that span of time.
You are welcome, but not required, to use PowerPoint for this assignment. Other acceptable formats, which have free or trial versions and are easy to use, include:
beautiful.ai: This platform uses the power of AI to help you create stunning presentations. You can sign up for a free trial account in order to use their templates, creative commons images, and automatic design features. The platform exports to PDF or PPT format, both of which can be uploaded to this course.
Sway: Sway is an app from MS Office that creates interactive, web-based presentations. You can use it for free with a Microsoft Account (Hotmail, Live, or Outlook.com).
Haiku Deck: This program has a trial version; it offers you 27 templates and over a million free images. If you do have a presentation already created, you can upload it to Haiku and their AI will rebuild it using effective practices.
Tips for Success
There has been a lot of research done regarding the need for a formalized onboarding process and employee retention. Take the time to research multiple processes and determine their strengths and weaknesses before putting together your Onboarding Presentation.
Writing and Submission Requirements
Please make your presentation no more than 12 – 15 slides (if using PowerPoint or a PowerPoint alternative). You should use the Notes Section to emphasize the content which will leave the main slide free for images and brief bullet points.
