Background Information Population Pyramids.
Population pyramids are a great way of visually seeing a lot of what is going on in a country or showing you places where you might want to begin research on the population, economy, development, health, and culture. Population pyramids provide proportional data by age and sex for a country, but can also be used for state, county or even city demographics for planning purposes.
I have found a few websites that I think will be useful to you to get more background on population pyramids before you begin the assignment. You will need this information to answer the questions at the end of the assignment.

ASSIGNMENT DIRECTIONS
For this assignment, you will make 4 population pyramids; one each for U.S., Mexico, the United Arab Emirates and Nigeria. Then you will answer the questions comparing and contrasting the population pyramids for the countries.
You will make 4 population pyramids and interpret them as to the demographic transition model.
Review “How to Make a Population Pyramid” (see below).
Identify which level of the demographic transition each country represents.
Then compare and contrast the countries by answering the following questions in a word document:
Please use complete sentences in your question answers.
Can you tell from the data if there are more male or female babies? Is the proportion the same for all four countries?
Are there more elderly females or males? Why might this be the case? Is it the same for all four countries?
Can you tell from the population pyramid graphs which country has the most people? Why or why not?
Looking at the pyramids, which country appears to have the slowest rate of growth? How can you tell?
In which country do children make up the largest percentage of the population?
Some cultures have traditionally favored boy children over girl children. Why might couples prefer to have boys rather than girls in these countries? What are some consequences that may arise if a generation has a sex imbalance?
What did you find to be most interesting about population pyramids?
