O‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍verview: Write an essay reflecting on the state of contemporary Latina fiction. Incorporating the authors we have explored (as well as others if you are so inclined), make an argument about some of the most exciting developments in fiction written by Latinas. You should discuss at least two authors as well as at least one scholarly source discussing Latina fiction. No reading outside the class is required, but is not discouraged either. Format: 2 pages double spaced, 12 Font, Times, MLA works cited Sample Outline: I. Introduction- Option A – Discuss the Latina fiction field using the readings we have done from The Routledge Concise History of Latino/a Literature (available Lehman Library online book). Highlight major developments, literary elements, themes, etc. you think are important. If you prefer, you can also use other readings you’ve done outside of class or from other classes. Option B – Start “in medias res” by sharing an aspect of a novel or short story we have read that you think ‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍illuminates a key development in Latina fiction. (If you go this route, insert a paragraph after the introductory paragraph that includes much of option B). YOU MUST INCLUDE A THESIS – or you will automatically get no higher than a C II. Body Paragraphs – select two to three authors whose work can serve as evidence for your thesis. For this paper, imagine a general literary audience, not a knowledgeable reader of Latina literature like me. When you introduce works, you should give enough context/ summary so this general reader can follow your argument, but now more than that. Papers that are heavily composed of summary will not do well. III. Conclusion – Do more than summarize your argument. Questions to consider could include: A. What are your hopes and/or predictions for the directions of the field? B. What are the most exciting aspects of what you’ve read? C. What is the significance for this discussion on the larger US fiction literary canon? IV. WORKS CITED – You must also include a form‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍al Works Cited with
