From the list of ANA Position Statements on ethics and human rights, pick one ethical issue that is of special concern to you. Read the ANA position statement on the issue.
In this Discussion Board:
Briefly describe the issue and the ANA’s position on the issue.
Describe (with some explanation) which of the ethical principles (justice, autonomy, beneficence, nonmaleficence, veracity) is of concern in the position statement.
Discuss how the issue might affect the relationship between a nurse and a patient.
Use a nursing situation to describe the relationship you are discussing – the conflict within a nursing situation, and nursing’s ethical response.
Respond to each other’s discussion postings, and as you consider which ANA issue to discuss yourself, try to pick a topic that no one else in the group has picked. Be scholarly in your response – use the readings to support your posting.
Post your initial cited and referenced response the first week of the module. Be sure to include in your posting a bibliographic citation for the article you have read and are responding to. Two cited and referenced peer responses are due as well; one cited and referenced response must be in the second week of the unit, the other cited and referenced peer response can appear in either week of the module.
Thought Questions: Thought questions are intended to provide direction for your thinking as you complete each Module’s assignments. It is not expected that you answer the questions directly – Definitive answers to the questions may not appear in your reading assignments, etc. They are intended to stimulate your thinking:
What does our code of ethics oblige us to do?
How might ethics of care be incorporated into annual evaluation criteria?
How is respect for persons demonstrated in health care today?
