Throughout the course we have discussed the creation of the first visual culture in Western Europe (primarily France and Great Britain) and North America during the 19th century. What has been photography’s role / this new perspective?
Please write a 4-6 paged, double spaced essay discussing this question. The text should be entirely in your own words, although you may use your text, other photography books, and the Web as resources, just be sure to cite all sources. Please do not quote from your sources, instead, synthesize the material. Make sure that you cover some aspect of each reading assignment in your essay.
To begin the essay, I would suggest using your text and classroom notes as a guide to see what topics you should cover, which, could include, but are not limited to: How was photography disseminated to the public? How did the use of photography change printed materials? What new printed materials became available because of photography? How were unique types of photographs (such as Daguerreotypes, albumen prints, Cartes-de-visite) used differently? What things were photographed? How were these things seen differently because of photography? How did photography impact its audience?
