Part of dealing with the disappointment of art lingering in our minds and posing more questions than they answer is doing research.The AssignmentTherefore, I would like you to find 2-3 outsides sources to aid in your analysis of “Part Four: An Outside Chance” for this final essay. I suggest using quality news sources. Remember you only need a few pieces of evidence to relate to McKibben’s claims i.e. the whole outside source doesn’t have to relate, just a sentence or two. Essentially, I would like to find sources and put them in conversation with McKibben. Remember sources won’t necessarily be directly about McKibben, but they should discuss similar ideas.FINDING SOURCESTo find your sources I suggest using De Anza’s library database EBSCOhost (Links to an external site.) for information at multiple tiers –Academic or peer-reviewed journals, requires advanced education, ex. The New England Journal of Medicine;
Periodicals, written at an 8th grade level for the common public, ex. The Washington Post and Newsweek.
General Google searchers on the other hand is for quick fixes and does not differentiate between the tiers, and can promote pages with faulty or bias information. EBSCOhost on the other hand verifies the sources in their databases.To find quality sources you will also want to narrow down your focus through the writing process.THE WRITING PROCESSYou have two weeks to write this essay. This first week you will want to find a focus and find some sources. A straightforward focus is either solar panels or non-violence, yet the subtler topics of maturity, endless growth, peak human, etc. are also up for grabs. Really, whatever you want that you feel relates to the arguments made by McKibben is fine by me. I suggest something along the lines of how will investment in renewable energy create jobs and offset some of the harm from climate change; or perhaps, how are non-violent protest for Black Lives Matter and against police brutality world wide causing lasting change.Furthermore, you don’t have to only have sources that support McKibben’s claims. Sources that refute, challenge, or simply ponder his claims are fine too.The second week you will craft your essay. First outline your essay by ordering the evidence you are going to use to explore your topic. Again, you only need a couple of quotes from each source, including McKibben.
