Lab 5 Questions
[Lecture 5] Use the anchoring dataset to predict cat speeds, tree heights, and meat consumption from the experimental condition that people were in. Define three linear models for each DV, plot each model, report the intercept, slope, and R2 for each model, and explain what these models tell us about the phenomenon of anchoring, and how we might use this knowledge.
[On Your Own] Read (or scan) through the lecture readings on linear models with categorical predictors (printed below) and complete the TWO check-ins from this reading. Focus on the re-leveling video and categorical predictor with 3+ levels, since these are new concepts.
[Discussion Section] From the “minidataset”, predict any continuous variable from one of the categorical variables with two or more levels. Make a prediction about what this relationship will look like. Then, import and check the data, plot the variables you will use for this model, define a linear model, plot this model, report the intercept, slope, and R2 for this model, and explain what this model tells you (was your prediction supported)? Finally, apply the “four reasons” to explain why this pattern might occur.
