JOURNAL POST ONE:   FINDING A TOPIC AND A THESIS FOR YOUR PAPER
Choose a topic that you are very interested in– a topic that gets you excited and motivated to learn more about it.  Some students choose topics that they have always wanted to know more about.  Other students choose topics that will help them in the future; for instance, the best ways to invest your money.  Make sure your topic is able to lend itself to argument, however, because your thesis must be a one-sided argumentative one.  In other words, you are either for or against something, something is the best or the worst,  something should be done about X, etc.  If you are writing a paper about the best ways to invest your money, your argument is that one should invest money for the future– that it’s a mistake not to invest money for the future.  Do you see?  There’s room for creative expression, but just make sure your thesis is an argumentative one. 
Your thesis is extremely important because it is a statement that you will be proving throughout your research paper– Your thesis is the last sentence of your introduction. 
This is what I want you to do for this assignment:
Write down five topics you are considering for your research paper.
Choose three topics from that list that jump out at you.
Write an argumentative thesis for each topic– 3 theses, one for each topic you’re considering.
Choose one thesis that you like the best and want to prove for your paper.
