Jeff 1. The final examination consists of a single essay question that will cover aspects of the whole course focusing on and is worth up to 200 points (50% of the course grade)
2. Students must read the final exam essay instructions carefully and ensure that they understand the exam requirements and specifically address each individual component of the essay question.
3. The final exam is not timed but it must be completed by the specified date and time provided in the submission deadlines table. Students can edit and resubmit the final examination using the link provided in the Blackboard Final Exam folder up to the submission deadline, only the final submission prior to the deadline will be graded.
4. The final exam essay answer must be between 2000-3000 words and grading will be based upon the quality of the answer produced and the correct use of multiple correctly cited (using APA style rules) specific details, factual information, and relevant examples.
5. Students must write in the third person and avoid including unsupported personal opinions or making unsupported claims.
6. Students should ensure that their essay utilizes the course content information extensively to develop their explanation, supplemented with relevant up to date information from additional appropriate academic sources.
7. Students are required to include a Title Page and a References Page, an Abstract is not required.
8. The final exam grades will be made available in the Blackboard system student grade section for the course within five days of the submission deadline.

Final Exam Essay Question
The aim of the Environmental Criminology and Crime Prevention is to prevent crime, not to cure offenders or reform society.
It is based on three contingent propositions:
• Crime is best understood in terms of an interaction between the offender and the immediate environment.
• Crime is therefore patterned according to the distribution of criminogenic environments
• These locations are the logical targets for interventions to prevent and control crime.
Using examples of at least six of the criminology theories and policing practices covered in this course; explain how these three contingent propositions are used in policing policy and practice to prevent crime.
The exam essay should include (as a mininmum) the following:
• An introduction to the topic identifying the aim of environmaental criminology and
crime prevention, focusing on how it is incorporated into policng policy and practices.
• A statement of why and how criminology theory and crime analysis are important in
policing.
• A logical development of the explanation of answer to the exam question, which must
be supported by the use of multiple cited sources of information within the text and
listed in the References page.
• Demonstration of the student’s understanding of how each of the six or more theories
and practices are linked and contribute to the aim of crime prevention.
• Demonstration of the student’s critical thinking in relation to the effectiveness of the
theories and practices in achieving the aim of crime reduction.
• A summary of the information and explanation that has been developed.
• A conclusion based upon the information and explanation provided in the essay.
