It is suggested that you structure your case part of the essay as follows: FACTS (lay out the nature of the issue – what has happened) CONTENTIONS (lay out each side’s arguments) DECISION (what will the Court decide? you don’t have to lay out why here) REASONING (here is where you lay out why the Court decided what it did; on what basis did they justify what they concluded? e.g., treaties, court cases, principles of law, etc.) [here is where you will draw upon what you have studied this term] Write a 10 page (suggested) essay and brief on the following: The history of the Lachs Moot Court competition (refer to the International Institute of Space Law web site) The statistical breakdown of countries and law schools that have won the competition. Go to their web sites and summarize each school’s program on space law. If you were to select a specific law school of these to apply to for their space law program, which would it be and why? You will also find samples of actual briefs prepared for the Moot Court competitions on the IISL web site but don’t be intimidated when you review some – your brief part of the assignment will not be that involved and detailed.
