The intent of this paper is for you to research and thoroughly understand a controversial food topic from a variety of opposing viewpoints to help you to be critical consumers of food-related information.
Your paper should contain between 3 and 5 pages of content (double spaced, 12 point font, 1 inch margins, APA format) plus a list of references (at least 3).
Your paper will be reviewed for the following attributes:
1) Is the food-related controversy well-defined? This might address questions like: What is the controversy? Is there important history or back-story to the controversy? What is the current status regrading the topic? Are there people, political or food advocacy organizations actively pursing change right now? Are there specific people who are vocal right now?
2) Are at least two points of view presented on the food controversy? This might address questions like: Who are the major players in this food controversy? This might include the media, the public, schools, corporations, farmers, the government, etc. What is their position? Do they want things to stay the same or to change? How do the opposing viewpoints impact the public?
3) Is the paper organized and well presented? Are there spelling and grammatical errors? Does the paper flow nicely from beginning to end? Is the writing style clear?
4) Do college-level resources support the ideas presented in the paper? Is the content in this paper referencing scholarly articles, government or organizational (.org) websites?
5) Does the paper end with a well-delivered conclusion containing the student-author’s point of view? The body of this report should be written in the academic voice (3rd person) without personal opinion or referring to personal experience. However, the paper should conclude with the student-author’s opinion on the subject, related to topics covered in this course and include what you believe should happen in the future related to your topic.
