In education, much discussion usually exists concerning the reliability and validity of assessment.
For instance, a true or false test can provide an assessment measure,
but is a high score a valid representation of student knowledge or a
student’s ability to guess correctly?
Or…
Is a low score a valid representation of a lack of student knowledge
or a student’s inability to guess correctly? In each case, a 50%
chance exists for getting the question right or wrong with or without
knowledge of the question.
In recent years, the use of a scoring rubric has gained much momentum
because it provides a set of guidelines to follow, to provide
consistency of measurement among assessors.
In a 1- to 2-page essay, address each of the following
assessment types, and discuss the pros and cons of each assessment tool
regarding reliability and validity factors.
