In 1774, the founding fathers came together and wrote the constitution to avoid having one person from having too much power and control over the people. The founding fathers faced disagreements on things like ways to equalize power and maintain the same level of power throughout the government and who would represent who. This issue would eventually be solved by the Great Compromise. During the constitutional convention, James Madison presented the Virginia Plan to assemble delegates in Philidelphia. Some of the crucial issues discussed between the delegates included representation, slave versus federal power, executive powers, and slavery and commerce. One key thing I would’ve done differently is to add a woman to the delegates. Although there were no women added to any house of representation until 1916, I feel as if this could’ve added a vaster variety of opinions to the decisions made between the house. One thing that I didn’t know before doing research is that Rhode Island boycotted the constitutional convention. Another thing that I learned was that one of the largest compromises that were faced was between the small and big states, trying to decide who and how many representatives would be in congress.
